WENG Jijun

WENG Jijun, one of the first Chinese artists to elevate lacquer craft into a form of art solely for the expression of ideas.

In his Solo exhibition “Human, Buddha & Animals”, he brings together a fine selection to illustrate the infinite creative possibilities of the traditional medium. With adept skills, he created innovative painting structures and delicate tonal nuances which are meditative in nature. His careful juxtaposition of matte and metallic textures shape the modernity of his paintings.

Through the abstract layers of paint, he has the desire to explore the meanings of religion, humanity, as well as questions of life and death. The size of the canvases might be small, but there belie reflections of his spiritual life.

Hailed by critics as one of the most promising contemporary Chinese artists, WENG elevates the national heritage to an international standard and having it translated into a universal sentiment.

WENG was born in 1955 in Shanghai, China. He graduated at the School of Fine Arts at the Jiangxi Teacher’s Institute and received a master’s degree of Fine Arts from the Central Fine Arts Academy Mural Division.
